ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES@#This study aimed to evaluate the application value of a modified retroauricular hairline incision and a sternocleidomastoid flap with an inferior pedicle in the resection of benign parotid gland tumors.@*METHODS@#Forty-eight patients with benign parotid gland tumors were retrospectively analyzed: 19 cases were included in the experimental group with an improved retroauricular hairline incision and a sternocleidomastoid flap with an inferior pedicle, and 29 cases were assigned in the control group with a modified facelift incision. Operation time, postoperative drainage, postoperative esthetic degree, and incidence of facial nerve paralysis, salivary fistula, and Frey's syndrome were compared.@*RESULTS@#After the esthetic procedure, the average score of the experimental group was higher than that of the control group, and the esthetic effect of the former was better than that of the latter (@*CONCLUSIONS@#The modified retroauricular hairline incision and sternocleidomastoid flap with an inferior pedicle can be applied to resect benign parotid gland tumors safely. It shows a better cosmetic effect and does not cause obvious postoperative complications. Therefore, it should be promoted for tumor treatments.

@#[Abstract] Objective: To investigate the expression of long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) HULC in bladder cancer tissues and its relationship with the clinicopathological features of patients, as well as the effect of silencing HULC on the proliferation, apoptosis, migration and invasion of bladder cancer 5637 cells. Methods: A total of 102 pairs of cancer tissue and adjacent normal tissue samples from bladder cancer patients who underwent surgical resection in Zhengzhou People’s Hospital from June 2014 to December 2017 were selected, as well as bladder cancer 5637 cell line and human normal bladder epithelial SV-HUC-1 cell line. The expression of HULC in bladder cancer tissues and cells was detected by qPCR, and the correlation between HULC and clinicopathological features of bladder cancer patients was analyzed. The effect of HULC on prognosis was evaluated by Kaplan-Meier survival curve. si-HUL and si-NC plasmids were transfected into 5637 cells by siRNA interference technology, and the effects of silencing HULC on proliferation, apoptosis, migration and invasion of 5637 cells were determined by CCK-8, Flow cytometry, Wound-healing assay and Transwell method, respectively. Results: The expression of HULC in bladder cancer tissues was significantly higher than that in normal tissues (P<0.05), and its expression level was correlated with tumor grade, tumor stage and lymph node metastasis (P<0.05). The OS and PFS of patients with high HULC expression were significantly lower than those with low expression (all P<0.05). The expression level of HULC in 5637 cells was significantly higher than that in SV-HUC-1 cells (P<0.01). After silencing HULC, the proliferation, migration and invasion of 5637 cells were significantly decreased (P<0.01), and the apoptosis rate was significantly increased (P<0.01). Conclusion: lncRNA HULC is highly expressed in bladder cancer tissues and 5637 cells. Silencing HULC expression can inhibit the proliferation, migration and invasion but promote apoptosis of bladder cancer cells.

ABSTRACT

Osteonecrosis of the jaw could occur after intake of bisphosphonate drugs, which are widely used to treat osteoporosis and bone metastasis of malignant tumors. This effect has aroused concern among dentists. In this paper, a case of bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis caused by implant is reported, and the pathogenesis, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of bisphosphonate drug-induced osteonecrosis are described through a literature review. The effects of bisphosphonate drug treatment on dental implants are also discussed.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To explore the clinical techniques and effects of repairing skin defects of the forefoot by free perforating flap nourished by peroneal artery.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>From June 2007 to June 2011, 11 patients with skin and soft tissue defects of the forefoot were repaired by free peroneal artery perforating flap in emergent or subemergent. There were 10 males and 1 female with an average age of 28.6 years old ranging from 23 to 46 years old. Among them, 4 cases injured for traffic accidents, 3 for crush and 4 for machine strangulation. In all cases, the defect area of forefoot tissue varied from 2.0 cm x 4.0 cm to 4.0 cm x 8.5 cm,and the adopted area varied from 2.5 cm x 4.5 cm to 4.0 cm x 9.0 cm. The operation time was from 6 to 96 h (averaged 31.8 h). The blood vessels were anastomosed end-to-end.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>All of the transferred free flaps survived uneventfully. Nine of them were successfully followed up from 6 to 24 months. The appearance, elasticity and functions of flaps were satisfied accompanied with slight damage of donor site although seemed bloated. The smaller donor site could be intimately seamed if necessary.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The vessels anatomy of knee with antegrade extended peroneal artery was relative constant with a moderate thickness and simple operation, is useful to repair small or middle areas of skin defects in forefoot.</p>

ABSTRACT

High-density lipoprotein (HDL), an abundant plasma lipoprotein, has been thought to be anti-inflammatory in both health and infectious diseases. It binds lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and neutralizes its bioactivity. The present study aimed to investigate the potential role of HDL, which was separated from human plasma, in LPS-induced acute lung injury in mice. Kunming mice (18-22 g) were treated with either HDL (70 mg/kg body weight, via tail vein) or saline 30 min after LPS administration (10 mg/kg body weight, intraperitoneally) and were decapitated 6 h after LPS challenge. The arterial blood was collected and analyzed for blood gas variables (PaO(2), pH, and PaCO(2)). The bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) samples were analyzed for total protein concentration, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity, and white blood cell (WBC) count. The lung samples were taken for histopathological evaluation and for determination of lung wet-to-dry weight ratio (W/D), malondialdehyde (MDA) content, myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity and tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) content. Arterial blood gas analysis showed that after LPS challenge, HDL-treated mice exhibited a higher PaO(2), and pH, but a lower PaCO(2) than HDL-untreated ones (P<0.01). LPS-induced increases in total protein concentration, WBC number and LDH activity in BALF were significantly attenuated in HDL-treated mice (P<0.01). HDL treatment also resulted in a significant protection of lung tissues against LPS-induced acute lung injury via decreasing W/D ratio, MPO activity, MDA content, and the content of the pro-inflammatory cytokine TNF-α (P<0.05, P<0.01). Histological examination revealed that HDL treatment resulted in significantly lower scores of acute lung injury induced by LPS, with reduced hemorrhage, intra-alveolar edema and neutrophilic infiltration (P<0.01). It is suggested that HDL plays a protective role in attenuating LPS-induced acute lung injury in mice.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To study the clinical and laboratory characteristics of adult Japanese encephalitis (JE) patients in a JE outbreak in Yuncheng, Shanxi Province in 2006.</p><p><b>METHOD</b>All the clinical data from the Second People's Hospital in Yuncheng city were analyzed, part of patients' sera and cerebrospinal fluid were tested by serology and RT-PCR.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The majority of patients were middle-aged and elderly, 77.8% (35/45) of the total cases were more than 40 years old. Severe and fulminating type cases accounted for 60.0% (27/45). Most patients had underlying diseases. IgM antibody to JE virus (JEV) in serum was positive in each of the 45 patients analyzed and 4-fold or greater rise in sera neutralization antibody titer were found in convalescent serum. JEV nucleic acid was positive in part of cerebrospinal fluid specimens.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Viral encephalitis emerged in Yuncheng city, Shanxi Province was Japanese encephalitis B, and most of the cases belonged to elderly group.</p>
